How Much Does it Cost to Replace Roof Cement

Cement is used on various locations up on a roof to secure roof tiles, from under ridge tiles to hips, valleys and gable ends (apexes).

This page covers the expected costs involved with removing and replacing roof cement.

If you are a bit puzzled, here a few example photos to explain things (I provide prices later in the article):

How much does it cost to replace roof cement?

Here is a rough guide to how much I would charge, but please bear in mind the following:

  • I am based in Surrey, your area may be more expensive or cheaper
  • My business is operating below the VAT threshold so there is no VAT to add to the quote
  • There is no additional charge for erecting scaffold or disposing of waste in my quote
  • Larger roofing companies will charge more to cover higher costs and employee wages

Ok so here is my rough price guide:

One gable/apex (both left and right side)

Erect scaffold tower to desired height. Remove tiles and set aside for re-use. Remove and lower to ground existing cement and cement underboards. Supply and install new underboards and bed tiles onto 3-1 sand/cement mix, point-in to leave a neat finish. Replace any broken tiles. Lower scaffold and remove all waste material. Cost £450, work to take one day. You can see an example of how I replace cement on a gable here.

One roof valley (includes new fibreglass valley base and felt)

Erect scaffold tower to desired height. Remove tiles and set aside for re-use. Remove and lower to ground existing cement and valley base. Supply and install new roofing felt to valley and fibreglass valley. Bed tiles onto 3-1 sand/cement mix, point-in to leave a neat finish. Replace any broken tiles. Lower scaffold and remove all waste material. Cost £495, work to take one day.

Re-cement 10 metres of either hip or ridge tiles

Erect scaffold tower to desired height. Remove ridge/hip tiles and set aside for re-use. Remove and lower to ground existing cement. Bed ridge tiles onto 3-1 sand/cement mix, point-in to leave a neat finish. Replace any broken tiles. Lower scaffold and remove all waste material. Cost £450, work to take one day or just under one day.
